Apollo 12 Advising: 2020 Advisor Registration

**Virtual advising program to assist rising 12th grade students with college applications**

Do you remember when you applied to college? The complex process of researching schools, composing essays and, ultimately, deciding between acceptances has not gotten any easier for high schoolers today...

Now, you have the chance to pave the way for future leaders of our Jamat by assisting high school students through the college planning and application process. At the same time, strengthen your own skills in coaching and development, creative thinking, communications and time management.

Advisor Role
-Provide individualized mentoring to high school students about to embark on the college admissions process
-Coach and advise students via a virtual advising format (you can be located in any city, so long as you’re able to connect with students via modern technology)
-Receive training, and then assist students, on topics such as:
---Identifying and shortlisting schools
---Components of a college application, including the development of impactful essays
---Navigating college financial aid
---Weighing acceptances and making final decisions

Advisor Expectations
-Be able to develop a strong relationship with each student and family
-Be able to commit 1–8 hours per month, depending on the number of students you are assigned
-Be available to attend ongoing virtual training
-Leverage video conferencing and messaging platforms for communication with students/parents (e.g. Google hangouts, Facetime, Skype, Slack, etc.)

Qualifications
-Familiar with the US college application process
-Currently attends or previously attended a leading US undergraduate or graduate university
-Demonstrates evidence of leadership, grit, creativity, and critical thinking
-Has a passion for youth development, mentorship and supporting the youth of our Jamat
-Responsive via different methods of communications, reliable, and accountable
